SOLIDARITY' IMMIGRATION IN MANITOBA: HISTORY IN THE MAKING

Presentation by

Magdalena Blackmore

During the 1980s, Canada was the final destination of a mass movement of refugees fleeing Poland. This new wave of immigrants mobilized existing Polish Canadian communities to assist the newcomers in acclimatizing into life in Canada. The research project carried out by Magdalena Blackmore was designed to preserve Polish Canadian history of these refugees. The focus was on the political, economic, and cultural impact of this wave of immigration on existing Polish and Canadian communities of Manitoba.
